Entrepreneurship

I Had Multiple Side-Hustles — And I Quit Them All

Let me tell you, entrepreneurial life is not for everyone.

I used to think being an entrepreneur was what I wanted:

  • Working for myself with no boss
  • Scheduling the hours that worked best for me
  • Taking time off whenever I wanted
  • Working on exactly what I wanted to work on

I kind of lived the entrepreneurial life unknowingly for a few years. After I finished grad school, I worked as a barista to pay the bills and took whatever gigs I could/schedule would allow.

You see, I got my degrees (both undergrad and grad) in opera/vocal performance and was pursuing a full-time opera career for a while. It wasn’t until a few years in when I realized that musicians are also entrepreneurs.

If only I realized this before, maybe I would have changed some of the ways I worked and thought about my former singing career. Hindsight is 2020, right?

I have a muggle day job, write, sing, and do voiceover by night, along with all the other projects happening in my life. Cat mom. She/her.
