How I Live Comfortably on a $40,000 Salary

Money is a touchy subject, I get it.

I’ve had to do a lot of mindset work when it comes to how much I earn vs. my best friend — she makes more than double what I do…

But, I’m certainly not miserable and this is, honestly, the most money I’ve ever made in my life.

A quick backstory

I have my bachelor's and master's degrees are in vocal opera performance, but I transitioned careers in January of 2020 into the finance industry after a lot of anxiety and panic attacks from pursuing the performance career path.

I’m in an entry-level position in finance in back-office support that started me out on 40k a year.

I was absolutely ecstatic when I got the job offer because I had never earned that much, and the benefits at the company were better than I could have imagined.

But 40k still isn’t a lot when you have credit card and student loan debt…

I’m making it work, though, and it’s not completely impossible.
